Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth is a 501(c)(3) public charity, Tax Identification Number 75-1228722. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Once you make a gift to the Lighthouse, you will receive a receipt or confirmation letter to keep for your records and use for tax purposes.

Absolutely not! Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth places the highest priority on the privacy of our donors. We hold all information in strict confidence. The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth does not sell or trade a donor’s personal information to any other entity.
What if I want to make an anonymous gift to the Lighthouse?
Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth respects the privacy of our donors who not wish to reveal their generosity to the general public. If you wish this to be the case, simply advise us when you make your donation that you want to remain anonymous.

Do you sell eyeglasses?
No, we do not sell eyeglasses of any kind. There are a number of specialists in the area that do sell prescription eyeglasses. There are also a limited number of resources that may be available for those that cannot financially afford a pair of prescription eyeglasses. The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth can provide referrals to these resources so that the individual can apply directly and eligibility can be determined
Where can I find a store that sells assistive devices for the blind/visually impaired?
Currently, the Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth is in the process of adding items to an inventory of products such as magnifiers, talking watches, and other items that will be available for retail sale in the near future. Currently, we are able to provide contact information for local area vendors and also mail/phone order catalogs for companies that specialize in assistive products that help individuals with vision loss to remain active and independent.
Since I am no longer able to see well enough to drive, how will I get to the doctor and grocery store?
The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth recognizes that transportation is a very significant obstacle for people with disabling conditions. We are able to provide referrals and help with the application process for providers of public transportation in Tarrant and surrounding counties. We also work closely with municipalities to be sure that crosswalks and bus stops are positioned to benefit pedestrians with vision loss in the community. The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth has professional staff on several different public transportation related committees that specifically address needs of the visually impaired community.
Do you hire individuals with vision loss?
Since 1935, The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth has provided meaningful employment for individuals with vision loss. Though we do employ people that are legally and totally blind, we are not the only employer in the area with jobs for people with impaired vision. All of our current employees found employment with us through the vocational rehabilitation agency for the Blind. We can provide a referral to this agency and start the process for employment related assistance.
Do I need a guide dog?
Everyone’s needs with regard to mobility are very different. Guide dogs are not for everyone. It is best to have a consultation by a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist to discuss if a guide dog would be appropriate for you. We do have two Orientation and Mobility Specialists as a part of the Rehabilitation Services team at the Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth. We also have contacts with all of the guide dog schools that would be happy to speak with you about any questions you may have about using a guide dog.
What type of donations do you take?
In order to provide the highest quality of service, the Lighthouse relies heavily on monetary donations. A gift can be designated for general operating, endowment or a specific program. Monetary donations may also conveniently be made online with a credit card, mailed, or in person at 912 W. Broadway, Fort Worth, Texas 76104 in honor of or in memory of someone. We also accept any donation that may be of benefit to an individual with vision impairment. This includes CCTVs, magnifiers, audio formatted books, Braille and large print materials, talking devices, mobility canes, and other assistive/adaptive devices. The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth does have an eyeglass recycle box and accepts used eyeglass donations for a local Lions Club. We are not able to accept clothing, furniture, appliances, medication, or food items.
